Rhodah Kalyandu Nchinga's Bio
Rhodah Kalyandu Nchinga went to Lwitikila Girls’ Secondary school in Mpika from 1986 – 1990. She then pursued Physiotherapy from Evelyn Hone College of Applied Arts and Sciences and graduated with a diploma in 1996. She started her career at Kapiri Mposhi District Hospital in Kapiri-Mposhi, where she established the first ever Physiotherapy department at the newly opened institution. She furthered her career, in service and graduated with a degree in Physiotherapy at the University of Zambia in 2006. She later pursued a Masters’ in Public Health at the same institution. She is currently undertaking studies for the PhD in Public Health.
During her course of duty, she has operated as an active health practitioner for 18 years and then resigned to pursue a career in health education. This took her to Lusaka apex Medical University (LAMU) and University of Lusaka where she tutored and lectured in Physiotherapy and Public Health respectively. She participated in developing the Physiotherapy and first ever, Public Health undergraduate programmes for the two institutions. She also developed the Postgraduate Sports Medicine programme for LAMU. She equally participated in the development of the Unilus postgraduate Public Health programme.
Among other entrepreneurial ventures, she is the Executive Director of Teronch Investments Limited (TIL), a for-profit organization. The TIL services include Health and Wellness, consultancies in Health Education and Promotion, Health Research and Leadership and Management trainings, Catering and Events Planning. Notable among these activities are consultancy services in curriculum development for undergraduate programmes in health sciences. This she has done for University College of Health sciences, University of Africa, and Unicaf University. Furthermore, she initiated short programmes in Sports and Health and Occupational Safety and Health. Others are health and wellness open clinics for youths and women as well as events planning and management for Faith Based Institutions.
On the other hand, she is a Director at Nissi Educentre Foundation (NEF), a non-profit organization whose services include public health promotion, environmental conservation, promotion of physical activities and sports and Entrepreneurship. Being a mentor, trainer, health practitioner and motivational speaker, she runs clinics for information dissemination and communication on Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights, Nuptial counseling, notwithstanding the common infectious conditions that frequently affect women and young people and their management. She is an ardent promotor of women and young adults’ involvement in physical and fitness activities for health to control and manage Non Communicable Diseases.
Moreover, she is involved with youths at home, community and institutional levels in a number of ways. She has this unquenchable passion for adolescents and is involved in the fight against teen pregnancies, early marriages and negative traditional practices that rob children of living healthy and fulfilled lives. This is carried out through the Adolescents’ Sexual & Reproductive Health Rights (ASRHR) campaign that has two initiatives code named, Operation Girl child (for personal hygiene and etiquette) and Operation 10-20 (for adolescence moral preservation).
It emphasizes on ending child marriages, teenage pregnancies and behavioral change communication in this age group. Both campaigns are carried out among those in the second decade of life. They are aimed at maturing adolescents into healthy young adults. Additionally, for the older youths, in the third decade of life, she provides mentorship on careers and guides young adults to develop their inherent skill to fruition.
She believes that health is everyone’s business and we can all better the world by putting our resources together to help those who are less privileged than ourselves.
