USAID Open Doors Project:
Under the USAID -Open Doors Project ZHECT is implementing a package of comprehensive biomedical and Social Behaviour Change Communication (SBCC) interventions that include HIV Testing and Counselling (HTC) STI Screening, diagnosis and treatment as well as integrating Family Planning issues targeted at the Key Population. Through government health facilities, a key feature during this project implementation is engagement and involvement of Queen Mothers/sub group leaders and some identified peer promoters to disseminate behaviour change messages, advocate for and promote uptake of HTC, STI prevention, screening and treatment services among their peers and to increase the visibility of the reproductive health services that are being provided by the government health institutions. ZHECT is implementing the USAID Open Doors Project in 4 districts that are mainly along the line of rail that include Chirundu in Lusaka Province, Kapiri Mposhi in Central Province, Chililabombwe on the Copperbelt and Solwezi in North Western Province. The selection of these provinces was based on the fact that this is where new infections are taking place. They do not only have a large population size with a lot of economic activities constituting a large number of “work places” for our core target group- the Female Sex Workers but they are also the areas in the country that have high HIV prevalence rate . The selection of the districts was also aimed at capitalizing on the work already done under the COH III project. |
